FOR THIS CAUSE CAME I INTO THE WORLD

For the first time since I started writing this blog, I didn't know what to write this week! So many ideas were swirling around in my head- each idea was competing with the other. Each idea was saying- 'talk about me'! But because of the invasion of Ukraine, I am mindful of the fact that we may be on the brink of World War III. One mistake. One misinterpretation. One decision to throw caution to the wind and it's all over for ALL of us.

Nuclear war has a finality to it that conventional war does not.

And so I decided that if this post is the very last thing that I ever get to say in this life, then I have to get it right! I sincerely hope that we are not at the end of the world. But how can any of us know with certainty how these events are going to play out over the next few days and weeks?

My message today is short and it is based on John 18:37 (KJV, emphasis mine).

        37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. TO THIS END was I born, and FOR THIS CAUSE CAME I INTO THE WORLD, that I should BEAR WITNESS UNTO THE TRUTH. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Discover your purpose, embrace your cause!

CAUSE
There is a power that we give our lives when we know why we are here! Do you know why you were born? Do you know why you were born into this particular generation? 

How do dictionaries define the word- cause? I checked out the Microsoft Edge definition and it said:

CAUSE [kɔːz]

NOUN
1. a person or thing that gives rise to an action, phenomenon, or condition.
    

    "the cause of the accident is not clear"
    

    synonyms: root, origin, beginnings, starting point, seed, germ

2. a principle, aim, or movement to which one is committed and which one is prepared to defend or advocate.

    "she devoted her whole adult life to the cause of deaf people" ·

    synonyms: principle, ideal, belief in, conviction, tenet, end, aim, objective, purpose

3. a matter to be resolved in a court of law.

    "forty-five causes were entered in the list for the March session"

VERB
    make (something, especially something bad) happen.

    "this disease can cause blindness" ·

    synonyms: bring about, give rise to, lead to, result in, create

WHAT WAS CHRIST'S CAUSE?

Obviously then, we can see that Christ used the word 'cause' as a NOUN and with the meaning given in definition number two- i.e. a principle, ideal, belief in, conviction, tenet, end, aim, objective, purpose. In fact, if you study the text carefully, you realise that Christ stated His reason for existing twice! Remember He said 'to this end' and He also said 'for this cause'. 'End' and 'cause' are synonyms of one another. They mean the same thing!

Also, did you notice that Christ corrected Pontius Pilate? That's why He said- 'thou sayest'. Remember, Old Testament prophecy had predicted that Christ would be called 'the King of the Jews'. And this is what Pontius Pilate did. But if you study the text carefully, Christ was telling Pilate that being the 'King of the Jews' was NOT the reason that He had come to earth! Christ said that there is only ONE reason that He actually came to earth and this one reason had nothing to do with being the King of the Jews. 

Christ said that He came: 'that I should bear witness unto the truth'. So, if 'bearing witness to the truth' was Christ's purpose for existing- what is that truth? That there is a God. 

All His miracles, all His guidance, all His prophecies were given to accomplish one end. To prove to us that there is a God. To bear witness unto this truth. God is real. God exists.

And knowing that there is a God- Christ advised us to conduct ourselves accordingly!

DAVID AND GOLIATH

Do you remember the story of David and Goliath? I have been so inspired by the number of 'DAVIDS' that I have witnessed in Ukraine in the past few days! 

• Willing to stay. 
• Willing to fight. 
• They are even willing to die for a cause that they believe in. How inspiring!

Remember also that David shouted: 'is there not a CAUSE?'. 

Your 'cause' defines why you exist. Your 'cause' tells us why you were born. 

My cause is to defend God's true message. This message was delivered by Christ. This message is called the gospel of the kingdom. This message is about love (aka the kingdom of God) and accountability (aka the kingdom of Heaven). And my cause requires me to identify the false messages that were written by false apostles and which I call the Pauline writings.

So, as we watch the events in Ukraine unfold. As we pray to God for peace. Please re-commit yourself to your cause, embrace that special thing that God has called you to do!

If we are sincere about our desire to restore Christianity to its roots, i.e. a return to Christ’s original message, then we must start by admitting that ‘while men slept’ (Matthew 13:25) the enemy planted false teachings (tares) into the New Testament!
