CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH?

CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH?

Today’s video clips are taken from the movie: A Few Good Men (and I apologise for the juicy language in the clips)! This fantastic movie stars Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore and it was released in 1992. The first clip is of the famous courtroom scene between Lieutenant Kaffee (played by Tom Cruise) and Colonel Jessup (played by Jack Nicholson). In this clip, Jessup tells Kaffee- 'you can’t handle the truth'! Jessup believes that Kaffee (and others) prefer the lie which hides what the military must do to actually protect the nation! Why? Because the lie is more palatable than the truth.

Today, true believers have the same problem. There are conflicting messages in the New Testament! Truth versus lies. And the presence of these conflicting messages have bred doubt about the inerrancy, infallibility and the divine inspiration of the New Testament scripture. And unfortunately, many have preferred the lie because it is more palatable than the truth!

Did you know that there are significant differences between the messages contained in the Apostolic Scriptures (i.e. Christ’s doctrines) and the messages contained in the Pauline writings?

Can you describe the seven well-known differences between the message of the Apostolic Scriptures (i.e. Christ’s doctrines) and the message of the Pauline doctrines? I’ll give you some clues.

        1. Is there a difference in a women’s role in ministry between Christ's perspective and Paul's perspective?

        2. Is there a difference between Christ and Paul's perception of the nature of Christ in the Holy Trinity (i.e. is He divine but not God OR
He divine and God)?

        3. Do you understand the relationship between personal accountability and eternal salvation?

        4. Did Christ ever condemn LGBTQ persons?

        5. Did Christ ever promote anti-Semitic behaviour?

        6. Piety versus charity- which of these two behaviours did Christ encourage us to embrace?

        7. Did Christ teach a pre-tribulation or a post-tribulation rapture for believers?

When you have finished considering these topics, ask yourself:

  • Do I have the courage to reject the false teachings of the Pauline false prophets?
  • Can I handle the consequences of Christ’s true gospel message?
  • Do my actions reveal that I have chosen the truth or do they show that I have embraced the easy lie?
WHY IS STUDYING THE APOSTOLIC SCRIPTURES SO IMPORTANT?
What I try to help people understand is this- the essence of the problem between the Apostolic Scriptures and the Pauline writings is that they teach conflicting doctrines. Once you realise this fact, your discipleship journey will get noticeably easier.

The Apostolic Scriptures come from the written records of Christ’s named Apostles (see Matthew 10:1-4, John 15:27 and John 17:6-8). The Pauline writings are the seventeen (17) epistles written by Mark, Luke, Paul and the unknown author of Hebrews.

Even in the Old Testament, God has always desired that our communications with one another are truthful, holy and righteous. Consider the Old Testament’s admonitions about the sin of lying.

        EXODUS 20:16

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

        LEVITICUS 19:11 (emphasis mine)

11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

        DEUTERONOMY 5:20

20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

HARVEST TIME Prophecies’ is the blog post site of TNG Academy. Our blog post site gets its name from Matthew 13:30- the separation of wheat and tares that occurs at harvest time (i.e. the endtimes). Remember, the ‘wheat’ symbolises the things of God and the ‘tares’ symbolise the things of the devil.

The purpose of this blog is threefold.

1. Some of the posts are written to help the reader develop a deeper understanding of the theology of Christ’s core message- i.e. the ‘gospel of the kingdom’.

2. Some of the posts are written for the reader’s personal discipleship journey. We need to understand what God expects from us. After all, all believers should be on a journey of ‘becoming’ our best selves, capable of impacting and changing the world!

3. Finally, some of the posts are written to answer this question:

What would our faith look like today IF we had fully embraced Christ’s doctrines, as recorded by His Apostles, and rejected the doctrines of Paul and the other false apostles?

If we are sincere about our desire to restore Christianity to its roots, i.e. a return to Christ’s original message, then we must start by admitting that ‘while men slept’ (Matthew 13:25) the enemy planted false teachings (tares) into the New Testament!
